📚 The Little Bus Stop Library
A free, shared space to borrow, swap, discover and enjoy books — right at the Skirwith village bus stop.
The Joy of Books, Shared
Our little library is built on three simple ideas:
Reading is for everyone
A place where you can always find something to read — while you wait for the bus, to take home, or to pass along to someone else.
Supporting local charity shops
All our books are bought from local charity shops, and when the shelves are full, titles are donated back to charities — keeping the cycle going.
Giving back through literacy
Any cash donations collected through the year are gifted to a book charity at Christmas, helping spread the joy of reading even further.
How It Works
Borrow or Keep
Pick up a book to read. If it's too good to give back — keep it!
Swap or Return
Leave returned or swapped books in the designated returns cupboard so they can be catalogued.
Donate
No book to swap? Consider leaving a small donation so we can keep the shelves stocked with fresh titles.
Browse Online
The catalogue is updated monthly (usually the last Sunday) so you can browse what's available.
Book Guidance
Simple ways to help everyone enjoy the library:
✅ Yes please
- Gently used novels
- Children's books
- Quality reads in good condition
❌ No thank you
- Damaged or torn books
- Old magazines
- Textbooks or dictionaries
- DVDs
If the donation cupboard is full, please don't leave books on the floor. Take them to a local charity shop instead, or contact the librarians to arrange a drop-off.
Request a Book
Got a title, genre or author you'd love to find on the shelves? Let us know — it helps the librarians know what the community would like to read.
